Shinners Mongwe is the Presiding Officer of Protea HET College, where he provides inspirational leadership, strategic direction, and governance oversight to advance excellence in higher education and training. With over 10 years of experience as a Lecturer, Mongwe has shaped teaching and learning across the technical, vocational education and skills development sectors, influencing both curriculum delivery and learner outcomes. His extensive classroom experience has grounded his leadership in a learner-centred philosophy, ensuring that academic programmes remain relevant, practical, and responsive to industry and community needs.
As a Head of Academics for more than five years within the technical and vocational sector, he played a pivotal role in driving academic excellence and institutional performance. In this capacity, he led academic teams, strengthened quality management systems, guided lecturer development, and ensured alignment with DHET, SETA, and QCTO regulatory frameworks. His leadership contributed to improved learner achievement, stronger governance structures, and sustainable academic operations.
Additionally, Mongwe’s influence extends into quality assurance and skills development through his work as an Education and Training Development Quality Assurer in skills development sector. In these roles, he supported assessment and moderation systems, accreditation processes, and continuous improvement initiatives, reinforcing a culture of accountability and excellence across education and training organisations.
Through his combined experience in academic leadership, quality assurance, and institutional governance, Shinners Ndzunisani Mongwe continues to position Protea HET College as a trusted, forward-thinking institution. Beyond academic leadership, Mr Mongwe is currently in works for a transformational impact on communities, particularly among disadvantaged learners. Under his guidance, Protea HET College has expanded access to education through bursaries, work-integrated learning placements, internships, and learnerships, enabling learners from underserved communities to acquire practical skills, secure employments, inspire self-employment, and pursue higher education opportunities. His initiatives have empowered significant number of learners, fostering academic success, personal growth, and socio-economic advancement, while inspiring communities to embrace education as a pathway to opportunity.
